Energy and Environment Programme (EEP)

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

The Energy and Environment Program is designed to facilitate harmony between the attainment of socio-economic development and maintenance of environmental integrity. The poor are not only more vulnerable to knock-on effects of climate change such as increased rainfall variability, food insecurity, spread of diseases and damage to infrastructure, but also have limited capability to respond or adapt to them. The programme seeks to ensure that energy services and benefits are provided in a manner that does not result in irreparable damage to the environment.

Why the EEP

  • Climate change threatens all sectors of the economy including energy production as was shown in the most recent 2007 electricity crisis due to the low levels of the Akosombo dam;
  • Energy sector decisions can have a significant toll on the environment;
  • Extensive use of woodfuels is resulting in accelerated loss of forests and vegetation cover, soil degradation, affecting water resources, agriculture and food security, biodiversity and environmental sustainability;
  • Biomass fuel usage is having negative health impacts on rural and peri-urban communities.

How we do it

  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and technology transfer that enhance the deployment and use of environmentally friendly technologies; assist the peri-urban and rural communities to use effective adaptation techniques;
  • Promote and demonstrate sustainable and efficient use of both renewable and non-renewable resources;
  • Secure the commitment of communities and institutions to behaviour change and avoidance of actions which degrade the environment;
  • Assist in developing local capacity within both private and public sectors to enhance the possibility of accessing opportunities, technological tools, financial and knowledge resources as complementary funding sources for socio-economic development, click here and pick a reliable property management professional.
