Prof. Simon Bawakyillenuo is an Associate Professor of Human Geography at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana, Legon. He holds a PhD in Human Geography (2007) and an MSc in Environmental Policy and Management (2003), both from the University of Hull, UK.

His research focuses on forms of energy and their interrelationships with health and the environment; energy policy and governance; renewable energy and just energy transition; climate change; environmental policy and governance; the green economy; and the political economy of energy.

Since joining ISSER in 2011, Prof. Bawakyillenuo has led and contributed to numerous research projects and collaborated with international research institutions and development partners, including IDRC, IDS, UCL, IRENA, ODI, Oxford University, USAID, ANAPRI, KIPPRA, World Bank, SEA, UNEP, IFPRI, and WIEGO. He has also served on several international and national steering committees addressing renewable energy, environmental sustainability, climate change, and green economy issues.

Prof. Bawakyillenuo is an Associate Editor and member of the Editorial Board of Local Environment: The International Journal of Justice and Sustainability. His scholarly work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Energy Policy, Sustainability, Environmental Challenges, Climate Risk Management, Climate and Development, Energy and Environment, and Energy for Sustainable Development, among others.
