Project Overview:
The Ghana MFP Programme aimed to reduce rural poverty by easing the labor-intensive tasks faced by communities, particularly women. Multi-functional platforms (MFPs) are diesel-powered units that operate grinding mills, de-huskers, oil presses, and battery chargers – enabling communities to transform energy into productive outcomes.
KITE’s Role & Impact:
- Established 38 MFPs in selected rural communities.
- Conducted extensive community surveys to select beneficiaries.
- Trained and built the capacity of community members for operation, management, and maintenance of MFPs.
- Supported the formation of women’s groups in gari and rice processing, providing processing equipment and construction of centres.
- Enabled ancillary businesses including mobile phone charging, ice water sales, dough preparation, and cutlass sharpening.
Outcome:
The project empowered rural women, enhanced local entrepreneurship, and created sustainable energy-driven businesses, contributing directly to poverty reduction and economic development.
